HERRICK BROWN & Company Ltd.
Expert for the defendant in a criminal case.
The defendant was charged with various offences involving violence towards a former partner. Part of the allegation was that he had located her by searching on the internet, and had also searched the internet for information about making explosives.
The defendant flatly denied the allegations, and told his solicitor that he did not make much use of the internet, and then only to view “adult” material.
It was accepted that only the defendant had access to the computer.
The police agreed to provide me with a copy of the hard disc from the defendant's computer.
My examination of the data files on the disc revealed that:
The files that the police used to support their allegations did exist.
The computer was used almost every evening.
That the defendant did indeed view “adult material”.
That the defendant had also searched for information about “hunting knives”, Hechler & Koch and Browning guns, and other weapons.
The police had not had the “resources” to examine the data in as much detail as I did, and were pleased when told of my findings, as had been agreed.
